Report Update: First Goat Purchase
Reporting Period: 26/06/2012
Submitted on: 27/06/2012
On June 26, 2012, BERUDA Director Ngwainmbi Simon, and In-House Fundraiser Chiambah Enock, travelled from the Belo Headquarters to the Fundong Branch Office to purchase and distribute goats to the orphans participating in our Orphan Education Through Goats project. Also in attendance were two Canadian volunteers working with BERUDA temporarily.
In Fundong, they were met by Branch Manager Tim Fidelia and Project Coordinator Chia Mary. The goal was to purchase as many of the 75 goats as possible during Cattle Market Day. BERUDA contacted each orphan's guardian and invited them to pick up their new goats at the Branch Office and begin the administrative process.
We were able to purchase 44 of the 75 goats - 29 females and 15 males. Each orphan is to receive two females and one male goat to begin breeding as soon as possible. The orphans in attendance all received at least one goat, although most received two or three.
BERUDA's staff documented the number and sex of goats given to each child, and opened a bank account in Fundong to deposit the remaining funds, to be used to purchase the remaining goats, pay first-year school fees, and buy uniforms and books. The children will soon be measured for school uniforms (and shoes, if necessary), in preparation for the September start to the 2012-2013 school year.
The remaining 31 goats will be purchased next Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
On behalf of the 25 orphans and the entire team at BERUDA, thank you once again for your generosity and support of this project!
