ORION ORCHESTRA -SEVENTH REPORT

By Adriana Gutierrez Galicia | Project Manager

About the Project

Created by the Alpha Lumen Institute, the Orquestra Órion is a music education initiative dedicated to children and young people, particularly students from public schools and participants in the Institute’s educational programs.

Its name honors the constellation Orion, known as a stellar nursery, symbolizing the potential within every young person. With renowned conductor and pianist João Carlos Martins as its patron and conductor William Wanderlan as its musical director, the orchestra combines classical and popular music, identifies new talent through partnerships with local schools, and provides participants with opportunities for artistic training, personal development, and new pathways for the future.

Orquestra Órion | 2nd Quarter 2026 Report

The Orquestra Órion goes beyond music education. It is a space for transformation, where music promotes inclusion, broadens horizons, and strengthens values such as respect, diversity, and equity. Every rehearsal and performance contributes to the personal, artistic, and educational development of the young participants.

Key Highlights:

New auditions: The Alpha Lumen Institute began selecting new orchestra members, expanding opportunities for young musicians from São José dos Campos and the surrounding region. Selected participants will receive a monthly stipend, workshops, practical training, and opportunities to perform on important stages.

Performances:

  • Sala São Paulo: The orchestra performed A Missão in partnership with Fundação Bachiana and under the direction of conductor João Carlos Martins, reaching an audience of approximately 1,400 people.
  • Vale Fashion: The Bahian singer Gilmelândia joined the orchestra for the opening of designer Arnaldo Ventura’s fashion show, connecting young musicians with new audiences and artistic experiences.
  • EAT Week: The orchestra participated in the opening of the Advanced School of Technology, bringing together music, education, and innovation.

More than performances, these experiences give young people the opportunity to access spaces that once seemed out of reach, build confidence, and recognize their own potential.

The orchestra continues to expand opportunities by welcoming new members, strengthening its musical, artistic, and educational training, and developing new performances and partnerships that allow young musicians to experience different cultural spaces and opportunities.

The journey of the Orquestra Órion shows that investing in culture means investing in people. With the support of partners and donors, we can bring music education to more young people and help them turn their talents and dreams into new possibilities for the future.
