We have wonderful news to share about the growth of our programs, early successes in our partnership with Kaufman Music Center, and our planning for future years. Without your support, none of these accomplishments would have been possible. Thank you!
As you know, we proudly serve students with private and partner lessons in our After-School Program, which offers highly-subsidized tuition rates and free ensemble participation for all who take private lessons. The program began on Monday, September 30th with more than 80 students registered, a remarkable increase over enrollment at the same time last year! Because many of our students cannot afford even the subsidized tuition, Opus 118 now gives financial aid to more than one-third of the after-school population.
Our In-School Program is growing with the addition of a sixth partner school, which includes a middle school. This year marks Opus 118's first foray into starting new violin students in the sixth grade. We are looking forward to the opportunities this opens up for future partnerships with middle schools in East Harlem.
This fall we also launched our new Teacher Training Program, which not only does gives our master teachers much-needed classroom support, but also helps us prepare for program expansion in future years. Our administrative staff also expanded to include a part-time Manager of Planning and Communications. We also welcomed a new part-time registrar to our staff who shares his time with the Special Music School and Kaufman Music Center.
The partnership with Kaufman Music Center has led to early successes beyond streamlined staff operations. Both new and returning funders have shown their confidence in our work with their support. As our partnership unfolds, we look forward to sharing our achievements and new developments with you. In the meantime, we hope you will consider renewing your support of our work in East Harlem!
