Dear GlobalGiving Supporters,
With the rainy season upon us, we are happy to report that we are working hard to install rainwater harvesting systems in various communities, and with numerous collaborators, to take advantage of this year’s rainy season! We are continuing to improve our impact by expanding our community and bridging families at-risk with individual supporters – like those of you here in GlobalGiving – grassroots organizations, institutional partners, and government.
Today, we are hours away from signing a new contract with the Municipal Government of San Diego de la Unión to work in at least 10 new communities and install an additional 115 rainwater harvesting systems in 2023. Currently, we are finishing up our last contract with this government, finishing the installation of 35 systems, and we’re getting ready to get this new project off the ground. Thanks to the support of Clean Water for Life, an independent fundraising group helping support our rainwater harvesting program, we in Caminos de Agua are providing 25 of the systems for this joint project, which is allowing the municipal government to increase their contribution and provide an additional 90 systems. And, thanks in part to GlobalGiving supporters, we are also able to provide Aguadapt ceramic water filters for all 115 of the participating families.
Also thanks to the efforts of the Clean Water for Life Campaign, we are working in the communities of Tampico and San Marcos de Begoña to build a total of 55 additional rainwater systems this year. When combined with our Aguadapt ceramic water filter, these systems will provide 55 real families a lifetime of access to clean drinking water. We are grateful for the support of SECOPA, one of our longest grassroots organizational partners, for their support in the community of Tampico. Additionally, we are very excited to be partnering with Amistad Canada who is helping provide some of the rainwater systems for the community of San Marcos.
In both San Marcos and Tampico, we are well along in the community organization process and educational programming, meaning we are just in time to install the systems to take advantage of this year’s rainy season! We will be implementing the final educational workshops in San Marcos in the coming weeks, gearing up for construction. And we will break ground next week in Tampico with the technical capacity training, which will be quickly followed by the installation of the rainwater systems in family homes.
So, on behalf of the entire Caminos de Agua team, and our growing network of partners who make this work possible, thank you for supporting this cause!
Saludos,
The Caminos de Agua Team
