We are just back from visiting GHA’s projects in Guatemala and had the opportunity to sit in on classes and enjoy our extraordinary staff. This is what the team has going this year:

8 preschool classrooms….GHA’s a Montessori-modeled head start
Without these classes, these 80 children would enter 1st grade with no prep. At home they hear their native Tz’utujil, but primary school is taught in Spanish and the failure rate is high.

Scholarships for 47 students, elementary through university level We work with families for whom the costs of school enrollment and supplies would be otherwise out of reach.
Extracurricular workshops and tutoring for our students The students consider aspirations and possibilities as well as stewardship of community and environment. Tutoring help and computer workshops fill in gaps so students can thrive.
Workshops for the mothers of our scholarship students
Exploring everything from chicken husbandry and soap making to mental health and legal rights.

And 12 cement floors to be built this year to replace dirt
This will bring our tally to 190 floors since we started this project. Stats show that overall health, as well as academic performance, improves for a family not burdened by parasites from a dirt floor.

We are all deeply grateful for the donors who support these important projects. Thank you for letting us turn your donations into direct action.
