“Unity is strength...when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” –– Mattie Stepanek
Here at One Common Unity, we pride ourselves on being a FAMILY. A family of all different races, ethnicities, classes, gender expressions, religions, and backgrounds. A family that recognizes we have something truly in common: a love for humanity and a love for each other. In wake of all the divisiveness that has occurred this year, we will never be shaken and moved from our core values –– which are love, peace, and respect for EVERYONE. So, as the year closes, we want to thank you for constantly supporting our youth and our mission to create compassionate communities in D.C. and beyond!
Our 2nd Annual Peace Ride was a huge success! Because of your kindness and giving, we were able to raise $7,667 to support our youth development programs. You rock! To see for yourselves how amazing the Peace Ride was, check out our Facebook photo album. In November, we also screened our “Fly By Light” film at Catharsis on the National Mall: A Vigil for Healing!
Our Fly By Light Performance Troupe is continuously spreading love, peace, and light through musical performances in D.C.! This month, our very own, Angell and T.K. performed at the “Legacy of Love” celebration at Howard University. Sponsored by the Black Child Development Institute of the D.C.-Metro area, the event honored Black educators and advocates for education and inclusivity. Also in December, FBL performers Delvin, Keith, Nardia, and Shardia led an arts and peace education workshop at the Hill Center. They taught youth how to create hip hop songs and how to play the drums! To see snippets of Angell and T.K.’s performance and the workshop at the Hill Center, you can click here and here.
Because of you, we are able to continue to grow our OCU family and sow, plant and water seeds of peace. As we move into the New Year, we have SO many great plans and activities in store and can’t wait to share with you our progress. Once again, we are thankful for your love and support! Please stay updated on our latest news by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all!
