Nyaka's 25 Year Anniversary Gala in Kampala

By Nyaka Global | nyakaglobal.org

Dear Friends,

On August 7, we gathered in Kampala for a night 25 years in the making: Nyaka's 25th Anniversary Gala. Staff, supporters, alumni, and partners filled the room, and we were especially honored to celebrate alongside Mukaaka Jolly, one of the original Nyaka grandmothers, whose presence reminded everyone where this story began.

Today, more than 23,000 grandmothers across southwestern Uganda stand together in community groups, caring for more than 96,000 children. They save together, farm together, and lift one another up. This movement was never built for grandmothers. It was built with them.

The evening also held a milestone for our founder, Twesigye Jackson Kaguri, who launched his new book, "Legacy for My Village," the third and final book in his trilogy. It tells the story of what a community creates when grandmothers, students, and neighbors decide their children's futures belong to them.

Legacy is the theme of our anniversary year, and it is the question we put to the room that night: what will the next 25 years hold? Our answer is bold. Nyaka has committed to reaching every district in Uganda by 2030, and the grandmothers who built this program are its greatest teachers.

None of it happens without you. Your support funds the trainings, savings groups, home visits, and quiet daily work that changes everything for a child raised by her grandmother.

Thank you for 25 years. Here's to the next 25, for our children's sake.

With gratitude,
The Nyaka Team
