Celebrating 25 Women and 25 Years of Nyaka

By Nyaka Global | nyakaglobal.org

As Nyaka celebrates our 25th anniversary, we recently published a tribute to 25 of the many remarkable women whose vision, care, and generosity have shaped our journey from a single rural school into the multi-program organization Nyaka is today.

The article honors Mukaakas (grandmothers), teachers, board members, donors, and longtime allies from Uganda to North America, including Mukaaka Freda Byaburyakira, Nyaka Primary's first Headteacher; Mukaaka Matrida Nyinebirungi, whose visit to the Grandmother Gathering in Toronto helped spark our grandmother housing program; and Mukaaka Jolly Babirukamu, who has trained and mentored grandmothers for years and represented them at Harvard's Center for International Development.

This Mother's Day, we send our deepest gratitude to all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who shape our lives and especially to you, our donors, for standing alongside the grandmothers of Uganda who are raising the next generation with such love and resilience. Thank you for making this work possible.
