Exactly three weeks ago today, staff from the Amextra Central Office traveled to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas to meet up with the local Amextra team as well as three donors from California, United States. During this trip to Xulumo in the region of Los Altos, Chiapas, our donors observed progress of the community greenhouse, MIAF plots, seta mushroom production, ecological stoves, and the space where sewing workshops are held.
After touring the various projects, our visitors expressed their surprise at how excited and proud Pascuala, Manuel, Sandra Montserrat and their neighbors and community members were to show off the advances in the projects they have been working on. Our visitors commented that this is a sign that Amextra is listening to the community´s needs and accompanying them to improve their quality of life in the ways that they want. It´s wonderful when others are able to see the progress in the communities first-hand, and see the same enthusiasm and unity in the projects as we do every day! We feel very lucky to have supporters who value local participation, compassion, justice, unconditional service and holistic transformation just as Amextra does.
After the tours we talked in small groups with the team and beneficiaries and learn more about their dreams for the next 5 years for the community. It´s truly inspiring to hear their hope and dreams for their children and grandchildren to grow up with diverse diets, education, different options for income generation and healthy
Before leaving we shared a delicious meal of chicken soup, tortillas, and fresh fruit from the community, and our guests to bought textiles and jams from the community before heading back to San Cristobal. Visits in the community are an overall great experience. If you are interested in visiting Los Altos or any of Amextra´s regiones feel free to let us know! We can also organize group trips through Seeds of Transformations. Contact us at stephanie@amextra.org or semillas@amextra.org
