The time of uncertainties continues with every child wondered what 2021 will be like, and now the wonder continues if 2022 will continue like 2020 and 2021 as we slowlyImpact
Challenge
Apart from getting knowledge of HIV and AIDS, the families that we met had other needs. Children were often struggling at school, because of trauma, being sick or not having enough food. We found a way in helping them various in our afterschool programme. Due to Covid-19 pandemic cases rising in South Africa, we had to decide to suspend the afterschool program as the whole country is now placed on adjusted level 4 and in third wave. We continue to deliver food bags every Thursday for the families to have enough food during these difficult times.
Impact
In the afterschool programme in 2017 to date, we were to help 31 children and their families physically by providing lunch, fruit snack and milkshake (Nucleo) four afternoons a week and handing out food parcels every week.
By getting these regular meals and extras we see the children grow physically, but also in their school results, socially and emotionally.
On the long term we want to see the children grow as adults who can provide for themselves and their families, without being limited by their health and abilities. That way they can make an impact in their families and communities and reach out to others that need help.
