Nutrition for Orphans and Vulnerable Children

Project Report | Mar 8, 2021
Reopening the After School Programme

By John Manganyi | Project Leader

It has been a time of uncertainty with every child wondering what 2021 will be like, and hoping it won’t be like 2020.

Muso* lost his grandfather to whom he was very close. He even called him Daddy as his mother passed away while he was still young and his real daddy’s location is not known. In the midst of this difficult situation Muso was looking forward to coming back to Meetse a Bophelo, which is safe environment for him to talk and he is now gradually doing better emotionally.

We have welcomed four new children into the After School Programme for 2021, and we are looking forward to seeing how they will grow and receive Hope. Now that the centre is open again they will get a regular hot meal and a nutritious Nucleo Milkshake which boosts their immune system.

Dimakatso*, one of our new children, was referred to us by the social worker because she is very sick and has no food to take her medication with. Dimakatso is already showing signs that she is starting to enjoy being a kid, with a smile on her face, she is excited to be in this place. We are looking forward to seeing her share her emotions and start enjoying going to school on a full stomach and not having to worry about her health.

Challenges
We appreciate your donations which help the children get the good nutrition which is so vital to their development. COVID-19 has impacted us financially and adapting to the “new normal” has stretched us in a big way.

We are thankful that we are still standing and serving the vulnerable and that you are standing alongside us, but we have to engage in serious fundraising and find creative ways to generate income for sustainability.

The team has adapted well to the COVID-19 regulations, though it is still a challenge to assist the kids whilst keeping a social distance and wearing masks as we are a relational community!
