Meetse a Bophelo Centre Reopens

By John Manganyi | Director Meetse a Bophelo Centre

“I have been waiting for so long to come back to Meetse,” said Tumiso*, “it means a lot to be back and see the teachers. It was a tough situation being locked in the house, no play and not able to go to school and meet with my friends, though I want to play more when I come to Meetse, but I also understand the situation with Covid-19, when will you think Covid-19 will end? We are tired of it and it must go!”

It is so encouraging to see Tumiso has gained weight just like many of our kids and is still taking care of his health.

Opportunities

  • Meetse a Bophelo's afterschool program has resumed fully with all the kids coming back. We are very grateful that they are now able to eat a healthy meal and drink nucleo to boost their immune system.
  • We have reduced our food parcel distribution due to many companies opening and people returning to work, also to give sustainability to the families so they are able to manage the little that they get in a form of grant etc.
  • We have also opened the Center for the youth to be able to study and do research since they are under educational pressure, especially those in grade 12.

Challenges

  • Its been a huge challenge doing the afterschool program due to social distancing, which makes it difficult to assist on one-on-one situations, though we are growing daily in this area.
  • We started with just few grades, which meant others were not able to come, this was a big disappointment to the other kids, but we have gradually added in the other grades.
  • Keeping the kids wearing their masks is a big mountain to climb though we have also adjusted in this area.

Thank-you for your ongoing support which helps us to improve the lives of these children, who have so much potential within them.
