RIVER FUND WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION KITGUM

ACTIVITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 2026 SUBMITTED TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RIVER FUND USA

September 2026

Introduction

The girls’ sponsorship is a sub component of Feed, Educate and Empower Girls and Women of Acholi supported by GlobalGiving. It is implemented by River Fund family support women association, a CBO located in Kitgum district northern Uganda. The River Fund USA provides leadership and support.

Project Aim

The project aims to help prevent drop outs of secondary school girls through provision of school fees, boarding fees, sanitary towels, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, feeding and mentoring.

Number of girls under sponsorship:

There are twenty girls under sponsorship and all are currently in Senior Two.

Payment of school fees

School fees for all the twenty girls were fully paid for second term. Boarding fees for Alliance and Kitgum Comprehensive was also fully paid.

School Visit

  • Mentors have been visiting the girls in their various schools before they returned home for holidays and encourage them to continue reading their books while at home and to stay away from boys.

Achievements

  • There were no cases of school dropouts and teenage pregnancy amongst the twenty girls.
  • There were no cases of gender based violence by teachers against the girls.

Challenges

In second term we did not experience any challenges among the girls since they have all the materials for learning and the mentors have been encouraging them during the term.

Recommendations

  • The mentors should continue to advise and encourage the students to work hard as third term is a promotional term, and respect their teachers.

Conclusion

We wish to extend our appreciation to the River Fund team in USA and our donors GlobalGiving for helping the River Fund members in Kitgum to make it possible for girl child education to continue.
