RIVER FUND WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION KITGUM

ACTIVITY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 2025 SUBMITTED TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RIVER FUND USA

Introduction

The girls’ sponsorship is a sub component of Feed, Educate and Empower Girls and Women of Acholi supported by GlobalGiving. It is implemented by River Fund family support women association, a CBO located in Kitgum district northern Uganda. The River Fund USA provides leadership and support. The project aims to prevent drop out of secondary school girls through provision of fees and mentoring.

Project Aim

The project aims to help prevent drop outs of secondary school girls through provision of school fees, boarding fees, sanitary towels, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, feeding and mentoring.

Number of girls under sponsorship:

There are twenty girls under sponsorship in four schools.

Payment of school fees

This year, we have 20 girls in Senior One, 5 girls in each of the following schools; MSGR. Antonio Vignato Mixed Secondary school, Kitgum Alliance College, Kitgum Comprehensive College and St. Bhakita Girls school. All the girls have been paid and are now settled in school.

School Visit

Mentors have visited the girls this term in their various schools and mentored them. More school visits are going to be conducted as the term progresses.

Achievements

• There are no cases of teenage pregnancy among the girls.
• There were no cases of school drop-out, all the girls have reported back for third term.
• The mentors are doing their best to encourage the girls to stay in school.

Recommendations                                                                 

• The girls should work hard this school term so that they are promoted to senior two with good grades.
• The mentors should continue to advise and encourage the girls to focus on their education and to actively participate in school.
• Mentors should continue to advise the girls on the dangers of teenage pregnancy and dropping out of school.

We wish to extend our appreciation to the River Fund Team in USA and our Donors GlobalGiving for helping the River Fund members in Kitgum by extending great support towards Girl child education in Kitgum district, we are very grateful for everything.
