Community Garden Continues to Strengthen Food Security and Hope

By Johannes Shikuloh | Project Leader

Over the past three months, our community garden has continued to grow as a source of food, hope, and opportunity for vulnerable families. Despite limited resources and ongoing drought conditions affecting many parts of our community, volunteers have remained committed to ensuring that the garden continues to serve those who need it most.

Community participation has increased, with more local residents generously contributing their time and skills. Children and young women continue to play an active role in gardening activities, learning practical agricultural skills, teamwork, and the importance of serving their community. Their involvement is helping to build a new generation that values self-reliance and humanitarian service.

We have also strengthened our collaboration with traditional leaders, who continue to encourage community participation and are exploring possibilities for expanding the land available for cultivation. Their support has been instrumental in motivating local families to take ownership of the project.

Although access to water and farming resources remains a significant challenge, we continue to seek partnerships with government extension services and other stakeholders to improve irrigation, provide agricultural training, and introduce climate-smart farming practices that can increase productivity.

The vegetables harvested from the garden have supported vulnerable households, helping to reduce hunger while demonstrating that community-driven solutions can make a meaningful difference even with limited resources.

We are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters whose generosity has made this progress possible. Your continued support will help us expand the garden, improve access to water, provide seeds and farming tools, and reach even more families facing food insecurity. Together, we are growing not only vegetables but also hope, resilience, and a brighter future for our community.
