Since November, 2015 forty-nine donors have contributed over $2,485 and purchased nearly 1,700 meals for homeless and low-income women and families in Washington, DC. Thank you for your support.
People experience homelessness for all sorts of reasons; lack of affordable housing, medical emergencies, job loss, mental health concerns or the death of a loved one. Deborah came to N Street Village after experiencing homelessness a few times over a several year period. She stayed with family on and off but needed a stable place to be while she focused on her goals.
“Today, I love myself again thanks to N Street Village. The community here helps me to maintain my sobriety and I am working on my education goals, a big step since I dropped out of school in the 7th grade. With the continued support, I know one day I will reach my dream and finish school. This is my community.”
Deborah volunteers in the N Street Village community by helping do dishes after meals in the outreach center. She says, “I love to volunteer here and it feels great to give back to the community.”
Deborah’s story illustrates the power of community. Many people like Deborah come to N Street Village first for meals but stay for the safe, comfortable and supportive home.
