Since November, 2015 thirty-one donors have contributed over $1,700 and purchased over 1,100 meals for homeless and low-income women and families in Washington, DC. Thank you for your support.
The end of the year brought a season of celebration and transition. Over 150 women came together for Christmas lunch. Women sat at tables set with white table cloths and were served by wait-staff who ensured everyone relaxed and had enough to eat.
It's also been a season of transition as we've said good-bye to members of our community have passed away. We'd like to share the story of one woman particularly. Connie was a deeply passionate woman who believed her voice, raised in protest, could make our world a more just place. She created a vigil outside the White House in 1981 and maintained a constant vigil for over 30 years. About six months ago, at 80 years old, she agreed to move inside and became a permanent resident of N Street Village. She shared meals in our community center and recieved medical care on-site until she passed away at home on January 25, 2016.
Connie's story illustrates the power of community. Many people like Connie come to N Street Village first for meals but stay for the safe, comfortable and supportive home.
