Summary

Hunger is responsible for 45% of all childhood deaths in Africa, causing more fatalities among children on the continent than any other factor. Nourishing Hope Project aims to grant consistent access to nutritious food for 50 children residing in the second largest slum globally. Your generosity will enable each child to receive a weekend food package filled with healthy, nutrient-rich foods for an entire year!

Challenge

Hunger is responsible for 45% of all childhood deaths in Africa, causing more fatalities among children on the continent than any other factor. Additionally, tens of millions of other children in Africa are barely surviving, often lacking sufficient food to eat. In fact, the World Health Organization states that 90% of African children are currently not meeting the full nutritional needs of a child. Kenya is home to the second largest slum in the world, Kibera Slum.

Solution

No one deserves to go hungry no matter their location. Food packs, given out twice a month, provide a child the nutrition they need for every weekend plus a day or two. A food back includes healthy, nutritionally dense food that will allow a child and his or her mother to be well-fed. A food pack includes common Kenyan foods that are nutrient dense such as: porridge, fruits, vegetables, ugali flour, chapati flour, beans, or rice.

Long-Term Impact

A well-fed child not only means he or she is no longer hungry. The effects of a child who is eating reaches way beyond that. A child who is properly eating receives countless benefits: improved health, decrease in chronic health issues, stronger desire to learn, hope for tomorrow, & more. The long-term impact: life. It may sound cliche to say that life is the long-term impact of an African child, but in third world countries like Kenya, famine is unfortunately a normal part of life.
