Nourishing Hope: Urban agriculture for elders

La semana pasada mantuvimos una reunión con los miembros del Huerto Urbano Agroecológico Ayni 1 de junio. Conversamos sobre los avances que estamos realizando de manera conjunta en la construcción de local comunitario del huerto y otras mejoras necesarias en las áreas de cultivo.

Coincidimos en que es muy reconfortante saber que con la dedicación, el trabajo conjunto y su apoyo vamos alcanzando los objetivos que tenemos trazados.

Por ello queremos agradecerles infinitamente y compartirles los logros que hemos alcanzado con su apoyo.

• Ambos huertos han sido certificados con el Sello Agroecológico de la Plataforma de Agricultura Urbana de Lima, programa co-dirigido por CUSO International. Esto significa que mantienen una práctica agroecológica en sus cultivos sin el uso de pesticidas, ni químicos y haciendo un uso racional del agua. Ello promueve el bienestar social de su comunidad y el cuidado del medio ambiente.
• Ambos huertos han participado en la Feria de Productores Agroecológicos de Lima - Sur
• Se encuentran participando del diseño de ordenanzas municipales de agricultura urbana en sus respectivos distritos.
• Recibimos la visita de representantes de Misereor con vistas a concretar una alianza para el desarrollo de ambos proyectos.
• Gracias a las donaciones recibidas, El Huerto Ayllu 1-9 pudo completar el techado de la zona de baños y almacén de su local comunitario.
• Gracias a las donaciones, el Huerto Ayni 1ro de junio ha podido financiar la compra de parte de los materiales para finalizar la construcción de su local comunitario.

En definitiva tanto ellos como nosotros estamos muy contentos y agradecidos por los avances y los logros alcanzados. ¡Esperamos seguir recibiendo su apoyo para hacer realidad estos proyectos! ¡Muchas gracias!

Last week, we held a meeting with the members of the Agroecological Urban Orchard Ayni 1 de junio. We discussed the progress we are making together in building the community center for the orchard and other necessary improvements in the cultivation areas.

We agreed that it is very rewarding to know that with dedication, teamwork, and your support, we are achieving the goals we have set.

Therefore, we want to thank you immensely and share with you the achievements we have reached with your support.

• Both orchards have been certified with the Agroecological Seal of the Urban Agriculture Platform of Lima, a program co-directed by CUSO International. This means that they maintain agroecological practices in their crops without the use of pesticides or chemicals and make rational use of water. This promotes the social well-being of their community and the care of the environment.
• Both orchards have participated in the Agroecological Producers Fair of Lima - South.
• They are participating in the design of municipal ordinances for urban agriculture in their respective districts.
• We received a visit from representatives of Misereor with a view to concretizing an alliance for the development of both projects.
• Thanks to the donations received,  Ayllu 1-9 was able to complete the roofing of the bathroom and storage area of its community center.
• Thanks to donations,  Ayni 1ro de junio has been able to finance the purchase of some materials to finish the construction of its community center.

In conclusion, both they and we are very happy and grateful for the progress and achievements made. We hope to continue receiving your support to make these projects a reality! Thank you very much!
