BYMT Update - late summer 2026

Last term at BYMT was truly exceptional, marked by the sheer quantity, quality and variety of music performed by BYMT’s young musicians. Across every genre there were unforgettable moments, but two themes shone through: progression and inclusivity. BYMT concerts highlight the many ways young musicians can grow at BYMT. Elliz, who left BYMT in 2024,says

“I was at BYMT for around ten years, which I would describe as the best decade of my life. My time at BYMT helped me to develop so many social and personal skills, including confidence, independence, communication, and the ability to work as part of a team. These skills helped me receive offers from four universities and continue to support me at university today, where I study Paramedic Science. I still play flute and piccolo in my university orchestra, allowing music to remain an important part of my life. The skills I developed through BYMT have helped me not only with my university course but also with becoming more independent whilst living away from home. They have given me the confidence to socialise, meet new people, and create a life for myself in a new environment.”

We are immensely grateful to our donors, whose continued encouragement and support makes BYMT what it is today and lays the foundations for our future generations.

When music, dance and acting come together, something truly magical happens. In its twelfth successive year, Musical Theatre Summer School led by a West End Director, vocal coach and choreographer, brought together 68 young students filled with enthusiasm and love of musical theatre to work towards a final performance featuring favourites from the West End and Broadway, to a packed and appreciative audience.

But here we are already, off to the start of a new year at Bromley Youth Music Trust with exciting events planned for this autumn term:

  • Inspire Concerts – performances in schools by our 2026 leavers and BYMT alumni to inspire the generation of musicians of tomorrow.
  • Try an Instrument Day – an exciting opportunity for any school pupil to try out a vast selection of wind, brass, string and percussion instruments, whether it's the first time at having a go or an interest in a second instrument.
  • The BYMT Musical Theatre Company’s next exciting show - KIPPS - the new Half a Sixpence Musical.
  • Two full-on concerts at the end of November showcasing a total of TWELVE BYMT Bands, Orchestras and Choirs.
  • Four Christmas themed Concerts at the beginning of December featuring a further SEVEN bands, orchestras and choirs from BYMT.

BYMT’s mission is to offer our music service to ALL young people and we can only do this with your support. Last year we delivered 7,280 free music lessons and provided instruments and access to BYMT music groups for free via the BYMT Young Musicians’ Bursary fund. This is only possible thanks to your support - you are helping BYMT make a lasting difference to young people's lives.
