Greetings to All of the Potential Donors inside and outside the Great State of Texas,
Many people say that Texas is a country inside a country, and just returning from there I would have to agree; but even the mightiest have their problems, and Texas has had over a months worth of trouble. In every state that we have been fortunate enough to respond to during a disaster, we always find people cities, and towns that are in need of assistance. Most of these people are either under insured, or no insurance, they usually don't qualify for FEMA, and they often times fall through the cracks as organizations show up to offer a hand at rebuilding and recovery. Do Your Part looks for these vulnerable areas and people. Currently Do Your Part along with its partners are repairing and rebuilding homes in Wimberly, San Marcos, and Martindale, but there is a town that needs our help, your help and anyone that will listen and that is Bastrop. Here is a little history of this town in Texas that was overlooked by the media.
•Bastrop County, Texas. Population 75,000
•9/4/2011 suffered the most destructive wildfire in Texas history and the 3rd most destructive wildfire in US history which destroyed 1704 homes
•Memorial Day, 2015
•6.50" of rain in 1 1/2 hours on soil that was already saturated from a record 22" of rain in May
•2 Tornadoes
•51 Water Rescues
•318 valid FEMA registrations
•600 Affected Properties
•Second Major Federally Declared Disaster in 4 Years
•The Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team rebuilt 133 homes from the wildfire and has been responding to the current disaster by providing temporary shelter, food and clothing to those displaced by the floods and has also been active with volunteers doing clean up and muck and tear outs and will begin repairing and rebuilding these homes, a number of which had just been rebuilt from the wildfires
The problem is that assisting organizations that deployed at the onset of this weather anomaly, are now ready to leave; but here sets this one town that has so much destruction, and no one to help, the media has moved on with little to no attention on these people. We are a great county and people have big hearts during the onset of a disaster, then the media leaves and people go back to what they were doing, and think everything is okay, but it is rarly okay. We are asking for your help to render aid to this town and these people and any others that are in need of assistance. Thank you so much for your time.
In Solidarity,
Your Do Your Part Team
