Who are we?

The African Great Lakes Consortium is a union of 11 local non-profit organizations working in solidarity to support vulnerable victims of armed conflict and natural disasters. These organizations have taken the initiative to collaborate to contribute to the socio-economic recovery and self-care of vulnerable groups, including orphaned children and women survivors of sexual violence, widows, the disabled, refugees, displaced persons, and flood victims.

Assignment:

Contribute to the reconstruction of the broken hearts and lives of victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters in the African Great Lakes region by giving them hope of becoming themselves, capable of working to take charge of themselves far from armed conflicts and violence.

Place of execution of activities: DR Congo)

3. Security situation in the African Great Lakes Region

We are living in insecurity: the city of Goma has been captured by M23 rebels. This is causing psychosis in Bukavu. This is affecting the business and learning climate in Bukavu.

Although the return of peace remains timid, the security situation in Uvira is gradually returning after a very worrying period of almost a month where we recorded deaths (civilians and soldiers, cases of sexual violence and systematic looting of state offices) after a clash following the tension due to a leadership conflict between the local armed groups known as WAZALENDO and the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo "FARDC", as a result of this situation, socio-economic activities were paralyzed, especially schools, mistrust between communities remains perceptible and human rights violations are very worrying.
