Increasing demand for our support

As we move into the summer you might be forgiven for thinking that the sunshine melts people's problems away. In fact we're entering into one of the most uncertain times in recent history, with a lot of people anxious about their future.

In difficult times our round the clock support service is ever more important. Our volunteers provide a listening ear for when life becomes overwhelming. By providing a safe place for people to talk about whatever's troubling them our volunteers often provide a lifeline for people who have nowhere else to turn.

Since our inception in 1953 Central London Samaritans has never closed, providing a 24 hour service every day of the year for the people of London and beyond. This unbroken chain of support has been an essential support network for the capital for over sixty years. Today we support people face to face, by telephone, SMS or email.

In the last 3 months we have been working hard to reach out to vulnerable groups across Central London known to be most at risk. We have doubled the time we spend supporting London's homeless and in June our volunteers were part of London Pride raising awareness with the LGBT+ community at a particulalry poignant time following the traumatic events in Orlando.

In April to June 2016 our volunteers responded to 27,717 calls for help from people struggling to cope, which included a 10% increase in the number of callers we supported face to face at the branch.

Over the next few months we are seeking to recruit more volunteers to help us provide support for people experiencing distress and suicidal crisis.

Thank you to all of our supporters.
