Fundraising for Refurbishment of New Premises

By Darren Hall | Head of Branch Operations

Fundraising Proposal for Refurbishment of New Premises

Central London Samaritans
August 2024

1. Introduction

Central London Samaritans (CLS) is embarking on an exciting new project: the refurbishment of our newly acquired premises to better serve our community and enhance our ability to support those in emotional distress. The current premises are no longer sufficient to accommodate the increasing demand for our services, as well as the growing number of volunteers supporting our mission.

To complete this essential refurbishment, we seek to raise £250,000. This proposal outlines the need for funding, the impact of the refurbishment, and our comprehensive fundraising strategy to reach this goal.

2. Organisation Overview

Central London Samaritans provides confidential emotional support to individuals facing distress, despair, or suicidal thoughts. For over 70 years, CLS has been a lifeline for people in need, offering support through phone calls, online communication, and face-to-face conversations. We operate 24/7 with the help of dedicated volunteers who offer their time to listen and provide guidance without judgment.

3. Project Overview

Project Title: Refurbishment of New Premises
Total Amount Needed: £250,000
Timeline: Aug 2024 – February 2025

Project Scope:
The new premises will provide essential updates, including:

  • Modernised volunteer training and support rooms to accommodate increased volunteer numbers.
  • Expanded confidential call rooms to enhance privacy and accessibility for callers.
  • Upgraded IT and communications infrastructure to ensure efficient operation of our helplines and online platforms.
  • Improved accessibility features, including accessible restrooms, to ensure inclusivity for volunteers and visitors with disabilities.

4. The Need for the Refurbishment

Over the past decade, the demand for our services has increased significantly. The existing premises no longer support the operational needs of a growing organization. By refurbishing the new premises, we will:

  • Increase service capacity to respond to the growing number of individuals seeking help.
  • Create a supportive environment for our volunteers with modern facilities for training and self-care.
  • Improve operational efficiency with upgraded IT and communication systems, ensuring our services are delivered promptly and effectively.
  • Enhance accessibility, making our services more inclusive to people with disabilities and special needs.

5. Fundraising Objectives

Our goal is to raise £250,000 to complete the refurbishment of the new premises by the end of February 2025.This proposal outlines a diversified fundraising strategy that includes major donors, corporate sponsorships, grant applications, and community fundraising events.

6. Project Impact

The refurbishment of the new premises will significantly enhance our capacity to support individuals in crisis. Specific benefits include:

  • Increased service delivery: We anticipate being able to handle 10% more calls and online chats annually, providing more timely support to those in need.
  • Improved volunteer experience: Modern training and break rooms will provide a comfortable space for the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time to our cause.
  • Accessibility and inclusivity: The new premises will cater to a diverse range of individuals, making it easier for those with physical disabilities to access our services.

7. Conclusion

The refurbishment of our new premises is essential to Central London Samaritans' continued ability to support the growing number of people in emotional distress. This investment will help us modernize our facilities, expand our services, and ensure that everyone in need has access to our compassionate, non-judgmental support.
