Nigeria's 2026 flood season has devastated communities across Nasarawa, Edo, Niger, Lagos, Adamawa, Zamfara and Katsina States. Hundreds of homes and properties have been destroyed or damaged, while thousands of people have been affected or displaced. HUCOMDEF is raising funds to provide emergency food, shelter support, non-food items, hygiene supplies and psychosocial assistance to vulnerable families affected by the floods.
Nigeria's 2026 flood season has destroyed homes, damaged property and livelihoods, and displaced families across Nasarawa, Edo, Niger, Lagos, Adamawa, Zamfara and Katsina States. In Lafia alone, 37 houses were destroyed and 307 people displaced, while Adamawa recorded 281 affected houses and 1,902 affected people. Families urgently need food, shelter, household items, hygiene supplies and psychosocial support as flooding continues. More families remain at risk as the rainy season continues.
HUCOMDEF will provide emergency relief to vulnerable families affected by flooding, prioritizing displaced households and those whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed. Support will include food packages, temporary shelter materials, household and hygiene items, psychosocial assistance and safe-water awareness. We will work with local stakeholders to identify priority needs, verify beneficiaries, distribute assistance transparently and support early recovery and flood preparedness.
The project will help affected families recover with dignity, restore basic living conditions and reduce their vulnerability to future disasters. Beyond immediate relief, HUCOMDEF will promote flood preparedness, early-warning awareness, hygiene practices and early livelihood recovery. Strengthening community resilience will enable vulnerable households to better withstand future flooding, protect lives and assets, and recover more quickly from climate-related emergencies.
