May 2021: An Update on our New Home for Girls

By Althea DSylva | Head - Communications & Resource Mobilization

Dear Friend,

As the COVID-19 pandemic rages across India, we see Divine Providence at work in myriad ways. We never imagined taking on such a massive project during a pandemic, but that’s how things turned out, and we’ve stepped up to the challenge by God’s grace. We understand why we are called to this work. It’s because the need in India has always been great, but more so at this time when hundreds of children are being orphaned each day this pandemic rages (see links below). We are very grateful to all those who have faith in our vision and contribute to this cause. Glad to report that the building is complete and the internal walls and plastering work are in progress.

It is said that “perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.” This is true considering all that happened at our homes these past months. Our programs continue despite the pandemic. We followed, and continue to follow, the stringent safety protocols laid down by the Chennai Corporation. Our children are incredibly vulnerable to the physical, mental, and social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet not one of them has been infected by the virus. This is truly a work of God’s grace and a testament to the round-the-clock vigilance and care provided by our staff. Sri Arunodayam is sparing no expense, seeking to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and keeping the children’s environment sterile to protect their health.

And thus, in the midst of exhausting protocols to remain safe, our new home for girls seems to rise like a phoenix, a symbol of hope to the 100+ children out there who will soon call it their “home”.
