Ground breaking at Lusangazi
Bringing hope where there was none
A powerful step forward has just been taken in Lusangazi District in Zambia.
Last month, Special Hope officially broke ground on a new Community Care Center in Mpeta Village—marking the beginning of something many families in this region have never experienced before: hope, support, and community for their children with intellectual disabilities.
You may remember that back in December, we shared how Chief Nyamphande generously offered land for this very purpose. What was once a hopeful step forward has now become a visible reality—this new center beginning to take shape.
At the ceremony, Chief Nyamphande spoke with conviction, urging families to no longer hide their children. In a region where stigma and isolation have long defined the experience of disability, he called for a new way forward—one marked by understanding, dignity, and care.
He shared that children with disabilities are not to be feared or hidden, but loved, protected, and valued like any other child.
Local leaders echoed this vision, recognizing the deep challenges families face when support systems do not exist. Many parents have navigated disability alone, without access to education, healthcare, or guidance. This new Center represents a shift—not just in services, but in mindset.
As Eric shared during the event, a child with an intellectual disability is not a punishment—they are not a shame or a secret, but possibility and humanity.
Through this new center, Special Hope Network will provide early identification and intervention, equip families with knowledge instead of fear, and support inclusive education—ensuring children are given the opportunity to thrive.
This groundbreaking is more than the start of construction. It is the beginning of a community choosing to see, support, and stand for children who have too often been overlooked.
And it is happening because of you.
