On August 26, a severe flash flood devastated parts of Nepal and China. The districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot, near the border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, were particularly hard hit. According to Nepalese authorities, numerous people lost their lives, and more than a thousand are missing. Rescue teams are searching for survivors. Member organizations of Aktion Deutschland Hilft are on the ground assessing needs and preparing emergency relief. Help us provide life-saving assistance!
The flash flood occurred on the morning of August 26 and spread along the Bhotekoshi River. Preliminary findings suggest that a glacial collapse or slope failure in the border region between Nepal and Tibet may have triggered the flood. The mountainous region in northern Nepal-already difficult to access-has been particularly hard hit. In a short span of time, the rushing waters swept away houses, roads, bridges, and energy infrastructure. Entire villages were cut off from the outside world.
