On August 26, 2026, floods completely swept away two private schools in Trishuli, Nuwakot, affecting more than 2,000 children. The schools are now resumed from rented spaces, but 80% parents have lost family members, homes, businesses and income and cannot afford school fees. With only 400 students able to return, the schools are also struggling to pay teachers and continue classes. Unlike many government schools, they have received little recovery support. UniCoN wants rebuild these schools.
The two private schools lost their buildings and belongings in the flood. They are currently unable to collect regular fees because around 80% of the families have been badly affected by the flood. Many have lost their homes, businesses or family members. As a result, the schools have little income to pay teachers and cover basic operating costs. Although 20+ organizations are supporting affected government schools in the area, these two schools have been largely overlooked and are not receiving
UniCoN will support the two schools to recover and continue providing education to children affected by the flood. We will help meet urgent school needs, including temporary learning spaces, essential teaching and learning materials, and other basic requirements for school operations. Where needed, we will also provide temporary support for teachers' salaries, particularly for lower grades, while families recover and schools rebuild their regular income. Our goal is to help the schools rebuild.
This project will help the two schools recover from the flood and continue providing education to more than 2,000 children. By restoring essential school facilities, replacing lost resources and supporting schools during the recovery period, we aim to help them become stable again and continue operating independently. Most importantly, the project will help children return to school, continue their education and regain a sense of normal life after the disaster.
