To all the parters, we would like to update that we are now on the ground and moving from immediate emergency relief toward recovery in Trishuli area of Nuwakot District.
Following the recent floods and displacement, many children are still living in temporary holding centers and have been out of school. To help them regain a sense of safety, routine, and confidence, United Community Nepal (UniCoN) has started establishing child-friendly learning centers in the affected communities.
As the first step, we are currently supporting 100 children through these learning centers. The centers provide children with learning support, recreational activities, games, creative activities, and a safe space where they can interact, learn, and begin preparing to return to school.
But the need is much greater.
Our next step: reaching 200+ children
We aim to expand the learning centers to reach more than 200 children who are still affected by displacement and disruption to their education. Additional support will allow us to provide learning materials, recreational and psychosocial activities, and continued support to children as they transition back to formal schooling.
Supporting mothers and protecting children
The recovery support is also reaching beyond children. We are providing support and information to pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers living in the affected communities, recognizing that their needs are especially important during this difficult period.
At the same time, we are working with communities to strengthen child protection and safeguarding, including awareness and monitoring to help ensure that children are not exposed to trafficking, exploitation, or other protection risks during displacement and recovery.
For us, recovery is not only about getting children back into classrooms. It is about helping children feel safe again, continue learning, play and connect with others, and return to school with greater confidence.
We have started with 100 children. With continued support, we hope to reach 200+ children and more families in the next phase.
Your support can help us keep these learning centers running and make the transition from emergency to recovery possible for children and families affected by the floods.
