Since launching our GlobalGiving campaign, we have already been able to take the support raised so far directly to children affected by the devastating floods in Dhading.
At Shree Bageshwori Secondary School in Galchhi-6, Baireni, Dhading, around 400 students lost their school bags, books, notebooks, learning materials, and personal belongings when the flood hit the school. The school was operating that day when teachers heard the warning and quickly evacuated all the students to a safe place. Thankfully, the children were safe, but the flood severely damaged the school and swept away or destroyed many of the students’ belongings.
Most of the children studying at this public school come from low-income families, including families who depend on daily wage work. For these families, replacing school supplies after a disaster is not easy. We did not want the children to return to school carrying the additional stress of having lost everything they needed for learning.
With the support received through this campaign, we have already provided around 400 students with 400 dozen notebooks, 400 dozen pens and pencils, school bags, sanitary pads, and hygiene kits containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap.
The support has now reached the school and the children. Seeing them receive basic materials they had lost reminded us that even a small contribution can bring some relief and help a child return to learning with a little more confidence.
But this is only the beginning. The damage is much greater, and there is still a lot to do to support the affected children, families, and school as they recover. We are continuing our response on the ground and hope to reach more families with the funds that are still being raised.
Thank you to everyone who has donated and stood with us. Your support is not just a donation. It has already reached children who lost their belongings in the flood and helped them take one step toward getting back to school and continuing their education.
Note: all the materials were handedover in the presence of Nepal Government's Education Development and Coordination Unit, Dhading, Local Education Unit of Galchhi Municipality Office. They acknolegded and recognized our efforts and thanked all the donors who are with us.
