Tashi Sherpa Returns to School!

Tashi Sherpa at her new desk in her new school!
Just over a year ago, 13 year-old Tashi Sherpa's school collapsed. It was one of thousands of school buildings destroyed in Nepal during the devastating earthquakes, and she became one of nearly a million children left without a safe place to study.
Over the past year, Tashi frequently skipped school for fear of another earthquake, and when she did attend she found that she couldn't concentrate. The temporary learning center that was constructed on site filled an immediate need, but it was hot and noisy and not designed for long-term use.
With dZi support, Tashi's community rallied together and constructed a new earthquake-safe building in record time! Her parents and neighbors all donated weeks of labor to the project, and local masons worked ten-hour shifts to complete the school before the monsoon rains began.
Two weeks ago, Tashi sat down behind her desk in a brand new earthquake-safe school - one of nine that we will complete in the next few months.
Tashi states that she is no longer afraid to attend school and that she can now concentrate fully on her studies. She is one of thousands of school children that will be attending classes in one of 31 new schools that we are committed to constructing over the next two years. "I am very, very happy to be in a safe school" states Tashi.
Gratefully,
All of us at dZi Foundation
