The Small World's Appeal to all our Friends

Dear all Friends and Supporters, Namaste!  and Happly Holiday

We Hope This Email Finds You Well!

The effects of Covid-19 in Nepal have left our country facing an upcoming “lost" decade for children's education. This educational loss is disproportionate among students with no access to any online education or who were already at risk for dropping out at the onset of the pandemic. The loss of family members and jobs especially affect seasonal trekking porters, single mothers, and construction workers. Today, none of these sectors’ businesses and their subsequent employment opportunities can begin to approach a normal stage of operations, and it could take many months to reach that point.

However, we are thrilled to share with you the testimonial of an anonymous student friend and his father who traveled to Nepal with The Small World and now they want to join us to continue the support of over 300 children in school who are at high risk for dropping out.

From November 18, 2022 to  through year end giving holiday they will match up to $20,000 in donations!  .

Here, in their own words, are why our friend and his father believe in our work, ...

Getting more specific, I have known Karma and Sonam  for over ten years, and not only trust them with my life, but also believe them to be tremendous stewards of the blessings that they have received. With other organizations, I fear overhead costs and unsustainable giving, but with The Small World, I trust and have seen firsthand that each dollar is used to the fullest for sustainable projects to help the community for many years to come.

There are a million causes to donate to. Of all of them, I have chosen to focus on supporting The Small World and their efforts in Nepal. My reasoning here ultimately boils down to one idea: I believe that there is no more effective way to donate a dollar than to donate it to The Small World. To encourage others to donate to the matching fund up to $20,000, I would like to quickly explain why I believe there is no better way to give.

To start, a dollar in Nepal goes much further than a dollar in most countries. According to Numbeo, the world’s largest cost of living database, Nepal is ranked 127th out of 137 countries in terms of cost of living. A dollar spent in Nepal goes about three times further than a dollar spent in the U.S.

Getting more specific, I have known Karma and Sonam Sherpa for over ten years, and not only trust them with my life, but also believe them to be tremendous stewards of the blessings that they have received. With other organizations, I fear overhead costs and unsustainable giving, but with The Small World, I trust and have seen firsthand that each dollar is used to the fullest for sustainable projects to help the community for many years to come.

Lastly, the country of Nepal is filled with some of the most beautiful and hardworking people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. During the brief three weeks I spent in Nepal, I was continuously blown away by the lengths the Nepali people go to help those in need, even while frequently having very little for themselves. Karma and Sonam are both perfect examples of this attitude of taking the smallest amount of support, and turning it into something to benefit the community at large.

I hope some of you might feel similarly, and I am excited to see what we can all accomplish together!

The Small World's Appeal to all our Friends and Supporters

We sincerely appeal to you to help us invest in these children's education today; it’s urgent, because it could be many months before the tourism and construction industries resume and people are able to find employment. If these children are forced to drop out of school, it is highly unlikely that they will ever return and their chances for an education will be lost forever. These children are in danger of being held back for a whole generation in their communities and will unwittingly continue and even deepen the cycle of poverty.

Please consider joining us and remember that your support will be matched 100% - up to $20,000! It’s a huge opportunity to keep hundreds of children in school and not only save this generation from ignorance and poverty but allow them to change their lives and continue to change Nepalese society for the better. They’re in urgent need of your help.

Thank you and happy holidays.
