NCFC Carpentry Program Fall 2017 Update

By Veronica Sanchez | President, Board of Directors

The carpentry students have learned to make and repair furniture at the shop thanks to the equipment and materials purchased with donations from GloblaGiving.  Some of them are able to supplement their mother's income by doing repair work on rataan furniture on Saturdays.

The academic tutoring program has been essential to all of the students passing their classes which is unusual for this group of boys who have a history of interrupted schooling due to financial hardships.  At the tutoring program, they have learned computer skills and can now finish research assignments because they have access to the internet.

In August, the students went on a field trip to a nature reserve in  Matagalpa, Nicaragua's northern coffee country, and enjoyed the cooler climate and respite from the urban and impoverished neighborhoods they live in.

For a closer look on how the Carpentry Program is greatly appreciated by the families of our students, please read the attached letter with heartwarming stories of my July 2017 visit with a grandmother and mother of two of our younger students.  Your generosity is helping these ladies with the challenges of raising boys in an impoverished community.

Mil Gracias!
