Even with the uncertainty of 2020 behind us, the last few months have continued to demonstrate need for Nature-based Resiliency and real investment in our communities.
Just last week, our legal director, Kristen Schlemmer, authored an op-ed in the Houston Chronicle calling out the City of Houston for the disinvestment in water infrastructure for those most vulnerable in our community. This comes on the heals of the February winter storm that knocked out access to water and power throughout the Greater Houston area and across the State of Texas.
We've been meeting with communities and talking with decision-makers to address these issues. It's critical that communities who are at the frontlines for impacts from systemic failures in our infrasturcture to the growing climate crisis are part of any discussion to vision and implement solutions in their own backyard.
In exciting news, last month we expanded our team bringing on Mashal Awais as our Watershed Specialist! For several years, Mashal has worked with communities aroudn the Greater Houston area advocating for communities' right to clean air and water. Interested in the intersection of ecosystem conservation and our built environment, Mashal is excited to explore sustainable solutions to protect our watershed and advance a regional vision of just and resilient communities.
Thank you for your continued support! We're looking forward to the coming year and the opportunities to advance our shared vision for a resilient and just region for all.
