National Anti-Racism Initiative

BGC Canada has long been an organization that stands for dismantling social barriers and creating equity. Across the 85 affiliated Clubs within our movement, we work with children, youth, and families from a diverse set of backgrounds to develop life skills, promote health, and support academic excellence. Underpinning this work is an unyielding dedication to social justice.

This dedication was further catalyzed by the world’s reckoning with racism that took place in 2020. In that year alone, BGC Canada:

• Developed and published our National Statement on Racism and Discrimination
• Developed and published our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment Statement – this work was carried out by leadership across the country, in consultation with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and youth leaders
• Formally committed to the 7 goals to move Canada toward ending anti-Black systemic racism put forth by the Black North Initiative
• Developed and published a National Youth Council Statement on Anti-Racism – this work was completed by youth, for youth, and will ensure we continue to provide oppportunities 

in 2021, we will be rolling out another round of Anti-Racism Initiative microgrants to provide more youth with opportunity to engage in important work.
