Harish (name changed) is an 11-year-old boy who left school after the death of his father. Harish could not continue his studies as he had to work to help support his family. Harish and his family are from Bihar, but Harish and his older brother came to Kolkata to find work while his mother and sister stayed in Bihar.
Harish was identified by the teachers of Nabo Asha when he was working as a child labourer with his brother. The Nabo Asha staff spoke to his older brother about his education and the need of a better and safer living environment. His brother then decided to enrol him in the New Market Nabo Asha centre to continue his studies.
Harish is a studious boy, who loves drawing. Initially he was enrolled in the non-formal unit where his capabilities were identified. After 3 months of coaching support, Harish was enrolled in Rani Roushami High School. He is a very active student who listens to his teacher and happily engages in the classes.
Harish has a lot of potential but struggled to the opportunity to explore his potential. When he was enrolled in school he found it difficult to adjust however with support from Nabo Asha he is doing well in school.
Harish is now in class V and takes part in various activities in school and the centre. He is motivated and knows the value of education; he believes that only through education he can help change the present situation of his family.
