NO, it will not end here. Though it is difficult, and people are shifting their focus else where, we are still going to push for the project completion.
Background
Following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, many families were left without safe and stable shelter. Baan Unrak Foundation has been coordinating relief and rebuilding efforts to support affected communities, focusing on the most vulnerable families who are unable to rebuild on their own. Our work aims not only to restore physical homes, but also dignity, stability, and hope for the future.
Current Status
• 42 out of 77 houses have been successfully completed and handed over to families.
• 77 houses were committed 35 houses remain unfunded and are still pending donor support.
• There are currently no remaining funds available for construction.
• Volunteers are fully ready and prepared to continue building immediately.
• Villagers are eagerly waiting for assistance to rebuild their homes.
Although some time has passed since the disaster, the need for safe housing remains urgent.
Activities and Progress
Shelter Reconstruction
Completed houses are providing families with safe, durable shelter, allowing them to regain stability and begin rebuilding their lives. For many families, having a secure home has also enabled them to focus on caring for their children and restarting small livelihood activities.
Volunteer Engagement and Community Support
While awaiting additional funding to continue construction, our volunteers are not wasting time. Whenever possible, they are actively supporting children in the community by providing tuition and learning support. These sessions help children keep up with their studies, regain a sense of routine, and feel emotionally supported during a prolonged period of uncertainty. This ensures that time on the ground remains meaningful and that the community continues to benefit even while construction is temporarily paused.
Community Impact
The presence of completed homes and ongoing volunteer engagement has helped restore hope within the villages. Families know they have not been forgotten, and children benefit from continued learning and care despite the ongoing challenges.
Challenges
• A funding gap remains for 35 houses.
• No additional funds are currently available to continue construction.
• Vulnerable families continue to wait for safe shelter.
Despite strong volunteer readiness and community cooperation, progress is limited by the lack of funding.
Appeal for Support
Baan Unrak remains fully committed to completing all 77 houses that were pledged. Additional funding is urgently needed to:
• Complete the remaining 35 houses.
• Allow volunteers to resume full-scale construction work.
• Ensure families are not left without safe shelter.
All planning, logistics, and volunteer teams are ready to proceed as soon as funding becomes available.
Conclusion
Although the earthquake occurred some time ago, the needs of affected families have not diminished. Safe shelter and community support remain critical for long-term recovery. With continued donor support, Baan Unrak can complete the remaining houses and continue providing meaningful assistance to families and children as they rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
We are deeply grateful to all donors and supporters for standing with these communities throughout their recovery journey.
