We are happy to report that because of your support, My Money remains on course to deliver on its promise of providing a brighter financial future to over 4,000 Kenyan pupils by the end of the year 2019. As at March 7, 2019, a total of 147 teachers have been equipped with the skills and techniques necessary for the effective delivery of the revised My Money curriculum to pupils. As a result, the teachers have been able to transfer the knowledge acquired to well over 4,000 pupils spread out from grade 3 through 8 in all four target schools.

Teachers in all four target schools affirm that thanks to the program, pupils are now more financially responsible. For instance, Mrs. Lydia Okombo, the Financial Capability Committee chairperson at Migori Primary School, notes that: “My Money is fast encouraging responsible shopping, saving (whether with the help of piggy or commercial banks) and budgeting among children.”

My Money is a child-targeted intervention. That’s why we are always working to protect children from abuse, and to instill in them confidence, self-esteem, communication skills and resilience. In the spirit of safeguarding and securing children’s safety and development, we have developed a comprehensive Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy that clearly outlines guidelines, standards, measures and procedures meant to streamline relations between children and anyone working or affiliated with us. Copies of this policy have been disseminated to all four target schools.

On March 2, 2019, we sent an assortment of learning and teaching materials to all four target schools in Migori and Kisumu counties. Mr. Joshua Matunga, the head teacher at St. Cecilia Primary School in Migori County, notes, “We deeply appreciate this form of material support, but even more importantly, we’re excited because it will make it possible for us to deliver the program to even more pupils this year.”

At $5,318 thus far, we may seem far behind our target of $99,999 in donations towards scaling the project, but your generous contributions inspire us to keep hoping and working. Whether you’re passionate about renovating a run-down My Money banner in Migori Primary, or supporting the training of more teachers, or facilitating the printing of a child-friendly version of our Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy, or even sponsoring a needy child, please feel free to hit the donate button https://www.globalgiving.org/dy/v2/checkout/billing/ and become a part of this noble initiative!
