We are proud to report that because of your support, our financial capability program, My Money, remains on course to deliver on its promise of providing A Brighter Financial Future for 4,000 Kenyan Pupils. As at November 2018, a total of 147 teachers have been equipped with the skills and techniques necessary for  the effective delivery of the revised My Money curriculum to pupils. As a result, the teachers have been able to transfer the knowledge acquired to  well over 4,000 pupils spread out from grade 3 through 8 in all four target schools.

Teachers in all four target schools affirm that children are now more financially responsible and entrepreneurial-minded. “Some children have taken to beading and bartering fruits in their spare time for little incomes. We’re also delighted by the fact that at least 5 pupils have so far opened savings accounts with the local National Bank branch,” says Ms. Eva, one of the teachers delivering My Money in St. Cecilia Primary School, Migori County.

The project has also helped us advance the competence and confidence of all 147 teachers involved in safeguarding and protecting children’s safety and development. Ms. Celyne, a teacher in Migori Primary School, had this to say: “We’re always working to protect children from abuse, and to instill in them confidence, self-esteem, communication skills and resilience. We believe the development of the whole child needs to be at the center of any and every child-targeted intervention.”

In Kudho Primary School in Kisumu County, a total of 65 pupils in class 5 have started a cowpea (or ‘kunde’) school garden. John, one of the pupils involved, notes, “The project was small for a start, but a number of parents and local community members are now increasingly relying on our school garden to meet some of their vegetable needs. With more support from well-wishers, we believe we can expand the garden to include more vegetable varieties, eventually achieving our ultimate goal of meeting our school’s lunch needs.”

At $5,298 thus far, we may seem far behind our target of $99,999 in donations towards the project, but your generous contributions inspire us to keep hoping and working. It is our belief here at CEDI that with your continued support, we shall achieve our goal of offering even more Kenyan Pupils a Brighter Financial Future, and to inspire a young generation of Kenyans to carry forward the beacon of hope in the fight against poverty. Please feel free to hit the donate button https://www.globalgiving.org/dy/v2/checkout/billing/ and become a part of this noble initiative!
