MENTAL HEALTH

INTRODUCTION

Hands of Mercy is a charitable organization whose major objective is to give care and support to vulnerable semior citizen in George Compound, one of the largest high density areas in Lusaka, Zambia.

OUR MISSION

To create an enabling environment or HOME for underprivileged persons by enabling them access quality Health Care, education, shelter, food and other life neccessities for their survival and development.

OUR VISION

To seee a nation fit for the underprivileged perons where they are able to thrive at attaining their self worth development and diginity.

WHY MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

Mental Health is a growing crisis within our community. Our beneficiaries live under a dollar per day implying that poverty levels are high. Hunger and loss are the daily companion to our beneficiaries with 86 percent living below the poverty line leading to Mental Health distress among our beneficiaries.

TRIGGERS OF MENTAL HEALTH

  • POVERTY

The high poverty levels in our community are the catalyst for Mental Health. Each morning our beneficiaries wake up pondering where they will get the next meal to feed their orphaned grand children.

  • UNEMPLOYMENT

 

  • The high unemployment levels among the orphaned grand children has become a source of worry among the elderly leading to poor Mental Health.
  • NEGLECT

Those who have lost Children and grand children suffer neglect and usually keep to themselves leading to poor Mental Health.

  • SUBSTANCE ABUSE 

Abuse of Substance remains a great concern to the elderly as they see their lineage being wasted.

 

CHALLENGES

 

  • INADEQUATE FUNDING

We have inadequate funding to realise our final goal which is to have a place of our own in a serene environment.

 

  • SOLUTIONS

We continue to work with our partners and well wishers whose support is greatly appreciated as there always supporting us with the much needed food and groceries giving our elderly HOPE to face tommorrow.

We can not do without them.

We shall continue to endeveor to provide support to our beneficiaries through our esteemed Partners and Well wishers to see to it that this Project becomes impactful to beneficiaries.
