MY MENTAL HEALTH MY WEALTH CAMPAIGN

By Loretta Dausi | Project Leader

SUMMARY

The project was birthed out of rise of Mental Health challenges in our Organization and the Country at large. 85% of our youth have resorted in alcohol and drug abuse because of high poverty levels and lack of skills. This has brought about depresion and anxiety in the older persons because they had hope that when their years of productivity came to an end ,their grand children will fend for them.

The project has increased in awareness of Mental Health and increased access to Mental Health Services since inception of the project in 2022.

Hands of Mercy will continue to provide a service to the Mentally Challenged and reduce Stigma against Mental Health.

Hands of Mercy has received support from the corperate world during this campaign on Mental Health. The Organization has recieved Industrial Sewing Machines, Cloth, Cotton, needles, Stationary, IEC material, sponsored Radio and Telvision programs, lunch, water and drinks during our campaign.

CHALLENGES

Mental Health is still not accepted in Zambia because of different social and cultural norms. This has increased in stigma against Mental Health and poor access to Mental Health Services and decreased productivity in youths.

SOLUTION

To increase awareness on Mental Health.

To continue educating people against their beliefs on Mental Health.

Provide Tailoring skills and empower youths.

LONG TERM IMPACT

With the Sewing Machines, the Organization will empower 20 youths per year. This will improve the productivity on individuals through an improved Mental Health, thereby doing away with alcohol and drug abuse.
