Vietnam is fighting with the fourth wave of COVID, and it is probably the worst one so far. Social distancing and job loss have impacted and increased the number of domestic violence. Agencies like CSAGA, Peach House and Anh Duong House in Hanoi capital city, have stated that more than 13,000 victims of domestic violence reached out via hotline to get support.
The lockdown has restricted cafe chains to be opened and events to be hosted, as a consequence, most of our business activities have been canceled, it has absolutely impacted on our daily revenue. Now more than ever, we need to elevate our resilience to stay strong together. The last few months have seen HopeBox actively seeking new ways of learning and development. We have been trying to keep our women busy by applying more practical training to help them build capacity, stay positive and be resilient, ready for our busy season post COVID. We are extremely grateful for SK2 funding that helped us provide training to our women and allow them to access mental and personal development support. We are continuing to seek funding to continue our 6-month Economic Empowerment and Capacity Building program in the near future.
We have welcomed another two women to HopeBox, one young woman is from a minority ethnic background and is ready to seize her next opportunities at HopeBox to be a pastry chef. We are beyond happy and proud to have them with HopeBox and look forward to seeing them grow.
May was a big milestone for HopeBox. We’re now officially registered in Australia as a charity! This would not have been possible without the help of our HopeBox secretary based in Canberra, Australia, our Directors, and the pro bono legal assistance of Hogan Lovells. They’ve stuck by HopeBox for the last 1.5 years and their dedication has made all the difference to us. We’re beyond grateful for this support throughout the pandemic.
