Dear Supporters,
An unprecedented time set in around mid-March across the country with the emergent COVID-19 situation. The clock had started ticking a few weeks back with the novel coronavirus spreading rapidly across the globe. The situation started worsening in India from the week of 16th March.
Due to the current situation with regard to COVID 19, in the interest of safety of our staff, children and their families living on construction sites and as per government advisories, we have had to keep our centres closed since March 16th. Our programme team however continues to remain in touch with community members and with Builders. Most builders had chosen to halt construction work even before the lockdown was announced and the remainder were going slow but everything came to a standstill after March 24th. Some of the workers and their families from state of Maharashtra could go back to their native village during the week of 16th March but most others had stayed behind. Those who stayed behind did not have access to ration and daily essentials as they were contained inside construction sites
MMC reached out to various organisations to facilitate supply of essential food items to migrant workers and their families. Through various collaborations, MMC was able to facilitate supply of food to over 15000 construction workers, most of them with families in several construction sites across various parts of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.
We will keep you abreast of our work as the days roll by. We hope to start our centres soon.
