Dear Friend,
Our journey has begun – with your help we have taken the first steps towards addressing the chronic shortage of multiple sclerosis (MS) nurses in the United Kingdom. We are truly grateful for your support
The MS Trust is absolutely delighted to announce that, right now, we are funding two new MS specialist nurses in Leicester and Bradford, and are recruiting in a third area. And, as a result of our funding, the NHS Trust in Leicester has agreed to fund an additional post!! We will be training and mentoring both nurses, considering them both part of the Programme. So that’s four new MS specialist nurses, not just for this year, but for the long term. This was only possible because of the generosity of our supporters, including those who donated via GlobalGiving.
And we haven’t just enabled a recruitment process, we’ll be supporting all of these new specialist nurses in the coming years. We will arrange the accredited training and professional development they need to care for people with MS. We will mentor them, support the existing service, and do everything we can to ensure that they are able to meet the complex needs of people with MS.
As she embarked on her career, one of the new MS specialist nurses shared her feelings with us :
“I feel very privileged to be in such an important role and to be able to make a real difference for people with MS through supporting symptom control, through being their advocate and link to other services, and by letting them know there is help out there for everybody.”
You are helping us to make sure that more people with MS will have access to the expert care they need. We are so grateful to you for helping us in our quest to make sure that no-one is left to face MS alone.
With very best wishes from all of us here at the MS Trust.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Sopala
Director of Development.
