CSA believes “adopting one child won’t change the world: but for that child, the world will change.”
If we look back in our lives, the most important blessing for all of us has been our family. The love, the caring, the nurturing that a family provides is priceless and irreplaceable by any institutional mechanism. Growing up in a loving and happy family is the best possible outcome for an orphaned child. It is for this reason that we believe that Adoption for a child is preferable to growing up in an orphanage as a strategy for rehabilitation.
We do a systemic investigation into the parental status of all children in orphanages and provide the documentation required to get them declared as legally free for adoption. The results are also very encouraging.
Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Raghavan* living in Mumbai, India approached CSA for guidance throught the adoption process. They had registered with the Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA) for adoption and were matched with a child’s profile online. The child was from an adoption agency in a rural district of the state of Maharashtra. Our staff got in touch with the adoption agency to complete formalities of handover of the baby and realised that all was not going smoothly as expected.
The social worker from the adoption agency had many apprehensions about placement of the child with Mr. Raghavan's family. They had some doubts regarding Mr. Raghavan’s intention to adopt the child initially. They were worried if the child will receive proper care and education as the parents were not well educated and the family’s income was low. Since CARA's guidelines do not discriminate parents basis their income, we were able to build a strong case in favour of the parents.
CSA staff accompanied the family to the adoption agency in Feruary 2018. We had a long discussion with the concerned social worker and had asked to be non-discriminating and non- judgmental as the home study reports are positive and still recommends the family for adoption. Thereafter in the adoption committee meeting, this was discussed and with the help of few positive suggestions from the committee, the decision of handing over the child to the family was finally taken.
Next day after completion of the court procedures, baby Swati* who is a year & half was given to her excited parents! It is a joy to know that Swati is fitting in well with her family & is very close to her mother.
We wish this family a beautiful life ahead.
