Dear Supporters,
Construction is moving along at Jacj Cuisi and we have now made three successful transfers of animals from Machia. Thank you for supporting this huge project!
If you missed it on social media, be sure to check out this video of the spider monkeys’ incredible journey across the country: https://www.facebook.com/comunidadintiwarayassi/videos/461298085719030
Albifrons: The albifrons are now completely adapted to their enclosures at Jacj Cuisi. They enjoy a more varied diet, thanks to the many wild fruits of the area, and they appear calmer than they were in Machía.
Spider Monkeys: The Spider Monkey Area is now 80% complete, and the International Primate Protection League has generously contributed another $5000 to finish the last bits: the water system, outdoor platforms, runner systems, covered shelters, etc. The 17 spider monkeys arrived in December, spent the first 2 weeks in their enclosures, grouped by affinity, and were later transitioned into semi-freedom, in which they explore the jungle on their own and return to the enclosure to eat and sleep. We are happy for the monkeys to gain more freedom, but this has been a process of great uncertainty. We are currently seeking grant funding to purchase GPS tracking collars, to more accurately assess the ability of our rehabilitated spider monkeys to survive in the wild, eventually in complete freedom.
Squirrel Monkeys: The squirrel monkeys made their journey to JC in December, and have been living in the newly built Quarantine, while construction of their area is being completed. We are grateful to author Tricia O’Malley for fully funding their area, which will be named “The Mystic Cove,” after one of her most loved series.
Last Friday we received a new baby squirrel monkey that is now in the process of socialization with the others. We anticipate that he will be well integrated into the group by the time they move into “The Mystic Cove” in a few weeks.
Anonymous Matching Donor:
At the end of 2021 you helped us reach our year goal of £10,000 ($13,500 USD), which a donor in the UK matched with another £10,000!
The anonymous donor didn’t stop there. They matched the next £5,000 raised (when we reached $25,000 on the GG page), and pledged to do so again, up to 3 more times, with a deadline of April 1.
That’s just 20 days away! A 100% match is a rare opportunity and we sure hope to take advantage of this generous pledge!
Our next goal is $31,800 - can YOU help us reach it? Please donate here to the GlobalGiving page.
Thank you for turning the “Land of Dreams” into a reality!
