Improve Health for Mothers & Children in Pakistan

Khair Mohammad* is 70 years old and a resident of a small 25 household village in interior Sindh, Pakistan.

He and his family have been regular patients at our SHINE Humanity Clinic at Gharo, which is located some 10 kilometrs away from his village. At one of his regular visits he was randomly selected to be screened for Diabetes as part of our recently launched DHH Program ( Diabets, Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia ). With an elevate HBA1c reading he was immediately enrolled in the program and after further labs his treatment was started and he was put on a regulated regimen of medications. He was also given counseling on disease mangement.

All this has only been possible bacause of the generosity of our donors who have enablaled us to not only treat the patient but also catch the disease before the onset of further complications.

In our effort to create a more impactful approach toward delivery of healthcare, SHINE Humanity periodically conducts health awareness campaigns in our facilities. We recently conducted a Hepatitis camp.The camp set up in the grounds in front of the clinic was attended by more than a 100 people. SHINE had partnered with the Health Foundation, a reputable non-profit working towards raising awareness about Hepatitis. There were a number of speakers who spoke in the local vernacular to the audience apprising them of the signs, symptoms and treatment options of the deadly disease . All 100+ people in the audience were then screened for Hepatitis. The results that came in were shocking but an indication of how prevalent this disease is among the community. Out of the 105 tested, 28 patients were Hepatitis C positive and 5 were Hepatitis B positive. This is around 30% of the screened population. The positive patients will now be enrolled in our Hep C Treatment Program, where they will undergo further testing and also receive free treatment for their disease in our facility.
