Across MENA region, conflict, energy costs, water scarcity, heatwaves, and energy poverty threaten vulnerable communities. We transform mosques into "Community Resilience Hubs" that contribute to climate adaptation/resilience providing shelter-renewable energy-water solutions.Beyond safety, reducing emissions and operating costs, we provide reliable electricity during conflict & outages, clean water, climate education, green jobs-training, community support, strengthening solidarity & wellbeing
MENA region is among the most vulnerable globally having one of the highest urbanization rates & heatwaves, energy costs, water scarcity & energy poverty, exacerbated by ongoing wars during the past 3 yrs.Despite mosques are spiritually most trusted, widely accessed community institutions-they remain largely underutilized in supporting renewable energy transition/access, yet have the untapped potential to serve as multi-functional community centers strengthening resilience of local communities.
Beyond reducing emissions and operational costs, "Resilience Hubs" will act as decentralized centers that provide solar powered electricity support during service disruptions and cut-offs, clean reliable water, and emergency cooling to their neighborhoods, while expanding access to sustainable community services. A community resilience hub integrates renewable energy, water solutions, community support services, green jobs training, and environmental stewardship to strengthen local resilience.
Provide climate solutions that have tangible socioeconomic benefits to surrounding communities and therefore elevating support to the transition to an alternative to fossil-fuel-dependent infrastructure.Advocate for a community mosque programme launched by the ministry of religious affairs which would include green loans to allow uptake of solutions by mosques. Influence national ministries of religious affairs and global endowment funds to adopt the "Green Mosque" standards and model.
