Covid-19 continues to impact Mosaic’s programming. While our programming remains virtual and in person performances have not been possible, we are excited by how our team has continued to provide opportunities for youth to gather virtually for creative exploration. We continue to be amazed by the resilience of the youth in our programs and the commitment they have shown to the mastery of their craft. This past January we held our first drive-in performance. The Immerse Ensemble working with a professional playwright presented original work which was recorded virtually. It was then premiered at a local drive-in theatre providing an opportunity for the young performers, their families, and friends to gather safely while celebrating their craft.
Mosaic has also continued our New Voices Detroit programming which pairs youth interested in playwriting and composition with professional directors, composers and coaches to guide them as they bring their original ideas to life. Once their plays and songs are finalized, youth in Mosaic’s ensembles performed their plays and songs virtually. During the pandemic Mosaic has had two cohorts graduate from the program and a third cohort is in session working with their coaches.
Additionally, Mosaic recently launched Mobile Mosaic, a mobile outdoor camp experience, taking place in neighborhoods around Detroit. Imagine a van pulling up in your neighborhood and offering the youth a 90-minute experience exploring their neighborhood and creating an interactive piece describing how their neighborhood looks, sounds and feels. To date Mosaic has explored two neighborhoods and plans are underway to explore many more throughout the summer.
Finally, Mosaic is pleased to announce that at this moment our summer programming plans include an outdoor in-person camp experience for those families that desire. We will continue our virtual option for those interested and our Mobile Mosaic van will hit the streets.
